For Adults:
Discover over 700 years of history at your own pace!
Using our paper guide you can follow the marked stations, or using your phone you can listen to our church historians weave the epic tale of Galway’s past while you soak in this atmospheric medieval masterpiece.
Within the church we also have a new exhibit which charts the story of Galway/Gaillimh from its Gaelic fort beginnings to the modern bohemian city that exists today.
For Children:
Looking for a family-friendly experience? Add The Knight’s Trail as a separate children’s ticket alongside your Self-Guided Tour booking. While accompanying adults, children can explore St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church at their own pace.
“The Knight’s Trail” invites children to discover the stories, secrets, and symbols hidden within Ireland’s largest medieval parish church. Guided by a friendly ‘knight’ through a specially created audio tour, young visitors follow clues, complete challenges, and uncover fascinating details about life in medieval Galway.
Along the way, children will:
– Explore the church through storytelling and observation
– Search for hidden carvings, memorials, and medieval features
– Learn about Galway’s rich history in an engaging and accessible way
– Discover and practise a few simple Irish words during the tour
– Complete activities using an accompanying worksheet
At the end of the trail, each young explorer will receive a special “treasure” for completing their medieval adventure: a golden coin and commemorative sticker. Visitors will also take part in a short knighting ceremony and officially become a Knight of St Nicholas’.
“The Knight’s Trail” is suitable for ages 6-10 (flexible).
Please note: “The Knight’s Trail” is a separate ticketed experience for children. The Free entry option for children under 10 does not include “The Knight’s Trail” tour.
