Two days of Textile Workshops with Ann Fleeton

Session 1: 10am-1:30pm: Printing with Plants
Cost: €50; each session limited to 12 participants
Formalised plant carvings on the sides of the Lynch tomb are inspirations for printing with plants on fabric and paper. Participants will use grasses, leaves, glass plates, linocut inks, and rollers to print on fabric and paper which can then be decorated with simple embroidery stitches and stitched to heavy paper to make greeting cards. All materials supplied; however, bring an apron.

Session 2: 2:30-5:00pm: Boro Slow Stitching
Cost: €50 per person; each session limited to 12 participants
Decorative and working clothing worn in the past often required careful repair. Slow Stitching by hand is an example of such mending. “Boro” in Japan means tattered or repaired.
Participants will learn how to use fabric and running stitches combined with bits of old cloth to patch and mend textiles. It is “decorative visible mending”.
Participants will make mats or coasters 11.5cm x 11.5cm (4.5″ x 4.5″) using scraps of raw-edged fabric laid on a linen base and held together by lines of running stitches.

Session 3: 10am-1:30pm: Silk Painting
Cost: €50 per person; each session limited to 12 participants
Examples in the church of abstract floral carvings, decorative floor slabs and the winged evangelist symbols are subjects for silk painting. Participants shall use both gutta resist and freestyle methods when painting on silk. All materials provided.

Session 4: 2:30-5:00pm: Hand sewn folded hexagons
Cost: €50 per person; each session limited to 12 participants
The almost hexagonal shapes in the upper part of the Persse stained glass window over the west door of St. Nicholas is an inspiration for hand-sewn folded hexagons. Participants will hand sew folded hexagons which can then be arranged in various patterns. All materials provided.
